We do NOT accept Medicaid as a secondary insurance. Patients will be responsible for their primary insurance's allowed amount. Medicaid does NOT cover our type of mental health services for adults.
As a courtesy, we may provide eligibility and benefits verification prior to your first appointment. However, it is the patient's responsibility to ensure that the provider is participating in-network with a particular insurance plan. It is also the patient's responsibility to know the estimated out-of-pocket cost for neuropsychological and psychological testing.
That will depend on your insurance plan and particular coverage details for mental/behavioral health and the type of evaluation needed. Insurance companies require that testing/evaluations meet clinical guidelines and are based on medical necessity to help confirm a diagnosis for treatment planning. There are exceptions especially regarding Learning Disorders and ADD/ADHD evaluations (please see additional FAQ).
Evaluations for the purpose of assessing Learning Disorders and ADD/ADHD are typically not covered by insurance companies. Testing for the purpose of educational planning or school accommodations are also typically not covered by insurance companies.
We offer self-pay rates for these types of evaluations that can be discussed prior to the initial intake appointment.
We do NOT bill insurance companies for psychoeducational/academic testing.
Neuropsychological, psychological, memory, cognitive, head injury, academic, learning, and add/adhd. (Please click on "Types of Evaluations" for additional details.)
We currently offer two types of evaluations: Focused/Brief Evaluation and Extensive/Full Psychoeducational Evaluation.
The Focused/Brief Evaluation can be used to establish a diagnosis for the purpose of medication decision making with your prescribing physician.
The Extensive/Full Psychoeducational Evaluation can be used to establish diagnosis as well as well as provide support for academic services including accommodations as needed.
Typically, you do not need a formal referral from a physician. However, it is recommended and helpful in many cases as it provides further clarification and background information including additional medical information.
You will typically meet for 2-3 appointments. The first appointment is an intake which includes a clinical interview, completion of paperwork, and determination of your need for an evaluation and lasts about 45-60 minutes. It is helpful to have a family member accompany the patient to this initial intake appointment.
The second appointment is typically the testing session which may last between 2-4 hours.
These two appointments are usually scheduled on separate days.
It usually takes about three weeks from the date of testing for production of a report.
For Psychoeducational/Academic/Learning Disorder evaluations, you may be scheduled to follow-up with Dr. Butryn.
For Medical/Neurological evaluations, you will typically follow-up with your referring physician.
For ADD/ADHD evaluations, you will typically follow-up with your prescribing physician.
